About
team scope are ‘Design Leaders’, smart, creative consultants using design-minded disciplines to solve business problems and create market opportunities for our clients.
Never before has your brand’s visual language been so crucial to the success of your business. The web has revolutionised global consumer markets, spawning the most design literate generation ever. In this age of ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ attention spans, your visual identity acts as shorthand, expressing your brand’s personality and values literally at a glance. Brands are like us, they don’t just want to be heard, they want to be understood and embraced. They want a meaningful and valuable connection.
The combination of team scope’s experiences, skills and processes enables us to blend the art and science of design together to create powerful visual solutions, extending the value of your business and engagement with your customer.
Katie Young – Director
For Katie, being a designer doesn’t stop at the end of the workday – she’s constantly on the lookout for elegance in design, whether it’s in a property, in a beautifully presented meal, or in the perfectly executed lines of an Aston Martin DB9 (her fave car of all time!)
Ever since she was little, Katie’s been passionate about design and property (don’t ever play Monopoly with her – she’s got a killer strategy for buying all the houses!) Her goal in life was to work out a way to combine the two, and in 2003, Katie created scope design so that she could make a living out of designing beautiful reports and marketing materials for large property companies. In 2010, Katie took her obsession with property to a whole new level by becoming a licenced real estate agent, gaining a new perspective on how to sell property and giving team scope an almost unfair advantage when it comes to making fabulous properties even more appealing to prospective buyers!
With an advanced diploma in graphic design and advertising, 13 years’ experience and an in-depth understanding of business needs, Katie’s literally bursting with brilliant business ideas and innovative brand-based business strategies. She knew that with the right team around her it would be possible to transform scope design from ‘just another design studio’ into a true business partner, working with clients to create design strategies that have a measurable impact on their business success.
So that’s exactly what she made happen … team scope is now leading the ‘design revolution’, creating fantastic results for businesses of all sizes with cut-through communications and intelligent design solutions.
And nothing could make Katie happier … except maybe that Aston Martin!
Lee Valentine – Brand Strategist
With a name like Lee Valentine he could have been a 1950s pop heartthrob, but lucky for us he decided to become a branding guru instead. To put it simply, when they’re looking for someone with hard-hitting credentials to build or renew killer brands, Lee’s the guy they call.
Lee’s been doing this for 18 years, so he knows a thing or two about how it all works. And his expertise has seen him transform the bottom line of some major clients. If you read his CV (which we have), you’ll see that in the past 18 years he’s:
– built an award-winning design agency
– managed the marketing division of Australia’s largest independent real estate agency
– become a lecturing authority on marketing and brand strategy
– mobilised a number of business units into multimillion-dollar profit centres
– launched hundreds of online and offline brand and marketing strategies.
On top of all that, Lee is a happily married guy with four gorgeous kids (baby Maxx is the brand-new addition to the Valentine clan), and while his passion for photography has filled the family albums, it’s landscapes that he’s really inspired by … probably because you don’t have to chase landscapes around waiting for them to sit still long enough to snap a picture! His goal this year is to get his hands on a BMW R1200 GS enduro bike and head out into the wild blue yonder taking pics of amazing things. Cool.
Mark Burrough – Designer
Mark has more than 15 years’ experience in design and branding. Armed with an honours degree in design, he worked for several of the best London-based agencies while earning a diploma in interior design in his spare time.
He made the move from London to Sydney in 2006, bringing a swag of prestigious design awards with him – including the coveted IVCA Clarion Award – but thankfully leaving the weather back in Ol’ Blighty. After several months searching for the ideal agency, he found his way to team scope where he has since been creating design solutions for grateful Australian clients.
Christine Kelly – Designer
Always artistic, Christine flirted with the fine arts for a while before studying design fundamentals at Enmore Design Centre. She went on to complete her diploma in graphic design. Since then, she’s worked in a range of businesses across the design industry, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience.
After doing everything from designing top magazines to in-house design for a renowned media company (we’d love to tell you which one, but we can’t!) to taking a key role in the Sydney Symphony account at Moon Design branding studio, Christine’s an old hand at dealing with high-pressure situations that need innovative solutions – so we’re confident that she’ll be able to handle anything we can throw at her!
With her self-confessed love of typography, her passion for books is only natural, and she freely admits to reading anything from epic sagas to the back of the Cornflakes packet. But her guiltiest pleasure of all is working behind the scenes of written material, painstakingly putting the pieces of the typography puzzle together until they perfectly compliment all other elements of the design.
An avid traveller, she hates to be tied down to set plans, preferring to explore and see where fate takes her. But being a true-blue Aussie girl, she loves her sand and surf, so if you ever want to find her outside of the studio, the best place to start is the nearest beach!
Claire Orrell – Designer
Claire’s passion for art and illustration combined with her natural gift for design makes her a fantastic addition to our team – and when you add in her love of astrology and tarot, team scope might soon be able to have your projects ready before you ask for them!
A UK lass, Claire excelled in science and art at high school, but cheerfully admits that being ‘a bit too clumsy to be allowed in a lab’ ruled out a scientific career and she decided to take on a BA in graphic design at Nottingham instead. Once she earned her degree she worked for a design consultancy firm creating in-store imagery for retail outlets, generating graphics for posters, signage and bags for some big-name brands.
Four years ago she decided to trade her brolly for sunscreen, and headed to Sydney where she immersed herself in the Australian art scene. She spent three years with the Museum of Contemporary Art creating catalogues and branding as well as maintaining her own freelance career, a blend that developed a diverse skill set that’s going to become one of team scope’s most valuable assets.
But it’s not just design that Claire’s passionate about – she’s also dead keen to get herself a dwarf goat, although with her recent discovery of dwarf cows, Gruffling may just be the first member of Claire’s miniature menagerie!
